Justin Beck is an artist that looks for contemporary twists on classical styles.
Justin Beck is an artist based in Savannah, GA whose work explores introspection and the condition of his own psyche through a blend of classical and contemporary oil painting. His work often depicts the human figure a pool of darkness that is inherited from tradition, namely baroque, and romanticism. Justin is currently pursuing a masters degree at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Artist statement
It is impossible to know everything that happens within ones own mind, let alone what exists outside of it. Uncovering those dimly-lit zones of enigmatic activity drives a certain curiosity within myself that needs to be satisfied. Classical techniques of oil painting seem to fit this expedition cleanly, although I find myself twisting the tradition as my needs see fit.
